(MACON, Ga.) – The Macon Mayhem, proud members of the SPHL, announced Tuesday that they are signing defenseman Steven Spetz for the 2026-27 season.
Spetz, 25, from Oak Ridge, N.J., aims to make his professional debut this season after a four-year collegiate career that concluded with two years at NCAA division-III UMass-Boston, where he suited up alongside fellow rookie signee Tyler Drummond. In four years at the collegiate level between UMass-Boston and NCAA division-III Wilkes University, Spetz played 101 games, tallying 20 points (4 g, 16 a).
“Steven makes a great first pass,” said Head Coach Dave Pszenyczny. “He’s not the flashiest guy, but gets the job done and is a great teammate.”
Prior to his collegiate career, Spetz captained the team at Pope John XXIII High School before joining the NAHL’s Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks. He also won a NCDC championship in 2022 with the Jersey Hitmen in his lone season with the team. His brothers, John and Charlie Spetz, have both played professionally in the ECHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Worcester Railers, respectively.
“Playing professional hockey has always been a goal of mine,” said Spetz. “I’ve been fortunate to watch both of my brothers play professionally, and seeing their journeys made me want to reach this level even more. I’m extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to start my professional career in Macon, and I can’t wait to get down there, meet the guys, and get to work.”
