(MACON, Ga.) – The Macon Mayhem, proud members of the SPHL, announced Tuesday that they are signing forward Roni Alanko for the 2026-27 season.
Alanko, 21, from Helsinki, Finland, aims to make his North American professional debut this season. Last year, he began the season with the NCDC’s Grand Junction River Hawks, putting up 24 points (9 g, 15 a) in 18 games before heading to Sweden to play 10 games for Åseda IF in the country’s second division.
He then came back to the United States to compete with the Vernal Oilers in the USPHL Premier, leading them to their second consecutive National Championship. Alanko was a part of both championship winning teams, and put up a ridiculous 90 points (47 g, 43 a) in just 27 games in the 2024-25 season. In 18 playoff games over the course of the back-to-back title runs, Alanko scored 39 points (20 g, 19 a) to lead all playoff scorers over the last two seasons in the USPHL Premier.
“Roni has a great release along with vision,” said Head Coach Dave Pszenyczny. “We’re looking forward to seeing him use his size in the corners and at the net front with our team.”
Size is something that Alanko has no shortage of, as the 6-foot-7, 245-pound forward will immediately become one of the largest players in the SPHL when he takes the ice this season.
“I’m very exited to move to Macon and take my next step in my hockey career,” said Alanko. “I have talked to coach Dave [Pszenyczny] a lot and the interest was mutual. Dave seems like a great guy, and he told me a lot of great things about the city and the community. I’m looking forward to playing in front of all the great fans and to meet all my new teammates and staff. See you in October, Mayhem fans!”
