(MACON, Ga.) – The Macon Mayhem, proud members of the SPHL, announced Wednesday that goaltender Josh Boyko is returning to the team for the 2026-27 season.
Boyko, 29, from Mississauga, Ontario, returns to the Mayhem for a record fifth season, becoming only the fifth player (Caleb Cameron, Jarret Kup, Stathis Soumelidis, Stephen Pierog) and first goaltender to do so in Mayhem franchise history.
“Any time you have the opportunity for a player like Josh to return, it’s a no-brainer,” said Head Coach Dave Pszenyczny. “We’re obviously very happy to have him and his leadership back with the team.”
Boyko is the Mayhem’s all-time leader in saves (2,368) and games played by a goaltender (82), and has the potential to set the franchise record for wins by a goaltender (30) this season, sitting just two away from tying Jordan Ruby’s record of 29. The veteran goaltender is coming off of the best season of his career, with career-highs of 20 wins, a .918 save-percentage, 2.51 goals-against average and his first career shutout.
“I’m really excited to be coming back and playing in front of a great fan base in Macon,” said Boyko. “Obviously we took a step last year making it back into the playoffs, but with how things ended I am determined to take another step and not let that be a one-off. Can’t wait to get this season going.”
