All-Time Halloween Comeback Propels Mayhem to 4-3 Win

(HUNTSVILLE, Ala.) – Four unanswered goals erased a 3-0 second period deficit and helped the Mayhem earn a 4-3 win in Huntsville to snap their cold skid.

The Mayhem were lucky to escape the first period trailing by only one goal, as Josh Boyko saw a shot per minute during the first frame and the Havoc outshot Macon 20-5. Giovanni Procopio scored a power play goal at 13:25 on the Havoc’s second power play of the period to give the Havoc a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.

It seemed the Mayhem were in for more of the same in the second period, after goals from Ethan Lindsay and Marc Pasemko put the team in a 3-0 hole. As soon as the deficit hit three goals, it was like a switch flipped for the Mayhem. Their intensity, physicality, and speed immediately improved, and it resulted in a Michael Krupinski goal from the blue line just three minutes later. Michael Herrera fought Brody Tallman inside the final five minutes of the period to inject some more energy into the team before the Mayhem went to the break, trailing 3-1.

As soon as Herrera returned from the penalty box in the third period from his fighting major, he found Khaden Henry in front of the net for an easy tap-in to cut the lead down to one. The Mayhem then got back-to-back power plays, their first two of the game, but failed to convert on either one. In the middle of the first of the two power plays, Ethan Lindsay drew a penalty shot after Grayden Gottschalk tripped him on a short-handed breakaway, but he didn’t end up putting a shot on goal. Despite not converting on either power play, Savva Smirnov was able to even the game for the Mayhem by crashing the net to put home the intentional rebound of a Michael Herrera slap shot with 8:46 to go in the third period. Macon continued owning the scoring chances the whole way through, until with 2:23 to go in the game, Grayden Gottschalk tipped a pass from Mason Hoehn past Brian Wilson to give the Mayhem the lead for good and cap off an unforgettable comeback.

Macon returns to the ice Thursday night in Knoxville at 7:30 pm ET. The Mayhem will finally be back at home on Friday, November 20th at 7pm against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs for Pro Wrestling Night. Grab your tickets today at maconmayhem.com.
