Mayhem Trampled by the Bulls

MACON, GA – The Macon Mayhem were ready to embark on Round #2 against the Birmingham Bulls this weekend on Saturday night; this time with their furry fans in attendance hoping to have a doggone good time.

The Bulls would stun Macon with two goals within the first minute of the game. Matt Wiesner would score from a tight angle, and Scott Donahue would deflect one by Brody Claeys. Josh Harris would be credited with an assist on the second goal, marking his 299th career SPHL point. Birmingham would keep up their intensity and would score midway through the period as Carson Rose extended his goal streak to 6 games. Jimmy Poreda would then take over the Mayhem’s goal crease. Macon would head to the locker room with not much to write home about and in search of some answers.

Birmingham would continue to hammer down in the second. Carson Rose would tally early to stretch the lead to 4. The Mayhem would be assessed three straight penalties, and after killing off the first two, they would succumb to a goal on the third as Joe Colatarci would pot one for the visitors. Jimmy Poreda would finish off the period with 15 saves.

The Mayhem tighten up defensively in the third, surrendering just 9 shots and no goals. Macon would fight furiously offensively but would be unable to crack the armor of Drennen Atherton, who would record his second career shutout en route to a 5-0 win over the Mayhem.

The Macon Mayhem will welcome the Huntsville Havoc next Friday night for the first matchup between the two sides this season. It is sure to be an “udderly” good time on Country Moo-Sic Night in the Macon Coliseum. Tickets for that one start at just $15.
