Macon Come Up Just Short in Back and Forth Affair

Fayetteville, NC – The Macon Mayhem headed east to North Carolina looking to carry their momentum with them as they prepared for a game with the highly-touted Fayetteville Marksmen.

In a battle of former teammates, Brad Jenion and Jamie Dorsey would drop the gloves early to set the tone. Macon would take full advantage of an early powerplay to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Billy Jerry would nestle in a tight cross crease pass to Tommy Munichiello, who slotted it home. Fayetteville’s Connor Fries would answer back on the powerplay for Fayetteville to make it a 1-1 game at the break.

A flurry of goals would open the second frame. Excellent passing would put Fayetteville up one after Roman Kraemer finished it off. Not to be outdone, Billy Jerry would strike against his former club with a backhanded shot by Kenny to even the contest. Tyler Barrow would then strike to make it 3-2 in favor of the Marksmen. David Nippard would not let Macon go down that easy and answer back with a nice redirect in the crease off a pass from Munichiello. Macon would maintain that 3-3 tie into the final intermission.

Fayetteville’s Charlie Bedard would score from the high slot to regain the home side’s advantage. Macon would continuously threaten down the stretch in the third but would be unable to break through. After Macon pulled the goalie in favor of the extra attacker, Cameron Cook would pocket the empty netter to seal a 5-3 Marksmen win.

Although they’ll be disappointed with the loss, the Macon Mayhem squad can still take plenty of positives away from the game. Their powerplay tallied twice in the contest, and they outshot the top-ranked Fayetteville Marksmen 41 to 34. Jimmy Poreda would stop 30 of 34 shots. All in all, it was a back-and-forth affair to the bitter end that could have seen either team prevail; unfortunately it was not to be for the Mayhem tonight.

Macon will welcome in the Fayetteville Marksmen next Friday and Saturday for The Price is Right Night and The Dark Knight Night respectively. Tickets start at just $15 so come join in on the fun. For tickets or more information, visit maconmayhem.com or call us at 478-803-1592.
