Due to the trade announced on Monday this will be the final Returning with Mac, as we have been going back taking a look at the players who were released on our protected list for 2023-2024. This weekly series has been a reflection of who these players are, where they have come from, and what makes us excited to bring them back to Macon. For the final time this summer please help us welcome back #17 Tommy Munichiello.
Munichiello, a 27-year-old from Weymouth, MA, joined Macon as a free agent before the 2022-23 season. The Mayhem’s Left Winger came into the organization with something to prove and by the end of the 2022-2023 season Tommy led the team in points.
The Massachusetts native played his youth hockey with the Boston Advantage a tier 1 Eastern Hockey League Team before setting off to Babson College a division three NCAA school in Massachusetts. Through Munichiello’s four years at Babson, his final year as the Captain of the team, had 65 points in 98 total games. After Tommy left Babson he was signed by the Elmira Enforcers of the FPHL where he played just one game before being traded to Delaware where he was fourth on the team in total points.
During the COVID season Munichiello suited up for the Port Huron Prowlers of the FPHL, one of only four teams to play that year. Despite only playing 23 games Tommy posted 12 points. Having seen success in the FPHL the Huntsville Havoc signed Munichiello during the 2021-22 season where he played 19 games and contributed 6 points.
After signing on with the Mayhem ahead of 2022-2023 Tommy found comfort in Macon and the Mayhem uniform. As the team leader in points last year, with 40 in 48 games, it was no surprise when the Maine Mariners came calling. Munichiello spent 6 games in the ECHL scoring a goal and an assist for the Mariners. Making him an easy choice to protect for next season.
