Over the next 11 weeks we are going to be taking a look at the players who were released on our protected list for 2023-2024. This weekly series will be a reflection of who these players are, where they have come from, and what makes us excited to bring them back to Macon. With our second man on the roster, help us welcome back #22 Aaron Aragon.
Aragon, a 25-year-old from Whittier, CA, joined Macon through a trade in November with the Knoxville Ice Bears that sent Colton Fletcher back the other way. The Mayhem’s Left Winger brought 39 points to the team including scoring his first professional hat trick on April 2nd on a 5 point night against Quad City.
Aaron began his career in his home state of California with the Los Angeles Jr Kings before heading north of the border to play in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, British Columbia Hockey League, and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. After playing 2 years in Canada Aragon returned to the states to play in the NCDC for the Northern Cyclones where he tallied 37 points in 49 games along with 126 penalty minutes.
The University of New England was the next stop for Aaron as he played 75 games tallying 39 points over his four seasons. After completing his education Aragon joined the Ice Bears in 2022-23 and played one game before the Mayhem were able to acquire him in the aforementioned trade. The Savannah Ghost Pirates took Aaron on loan in March where he posted 2 assists in 6 games.
Macon has had a history of building success around a core group of players and it is easy to see that Aragon’s hardwork, hustle, and talent made him an easy choice to keep protected on the roster.
Keep an eye out every Thursday for another look at one of our returning players!
