MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem would lose the lead late in the third, and despite valiant efforts, could not grab it back from the clutches of the Marksmen.
The first period would start with strong defensive plays from both sides. It would be a clean period until Tanner Nagel would be tagged for tripping 9:17 into the period, but the Mayhem penalty kill would come up big again this season. Fayetteville’s Grant Loven would be assessed a tripping minor of his own late in the period, but the Marksmen would kill that one off to keep the score at 0.
To open the second period, Billy Jerry would open the scoring for the Marksmen for his first goal of the year. A captain’s effort from the Mayhem’s Jarret Kup would pull Macon back even as his shot from the point would be unencumbered as it went past Ryan Kenny in the Marksmen net. Michael McChesney would then join in on the action after the puck was won back by Tim Faulkner. McChesney would go bar down to snag his second goal of the season, and the Mayhem would head to the locker room with a 2-1 advantage.
CJ Hayes would open the third with a bang as he backhanded one by Kenny to double the Mayhem lead. It would be all Marksmen the rest of the way despite a tremendous effort for Macon. Johnson, Boyko, and Cook would each score, and the Marksmen would skate away with a 4-3 win.
The Mayhem hit the road for the first time this season next weekend for a clash with the Evansville Thunderbolts. It will be a 27-day road trip before the Mayhem head back to the Macon Coliseum on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for a tilt with the Ice Bears on Scooby Doo Night.
