Cmunt and Boyko Find the Scoresheet but Mayhem Fall

MACON, GA – The Macon Mayhem would ready themselves for action on Friday night against the Pensacola Ice Flyers in what would be their final home game of the 2023 calendar year.

Macon would kill off a penalty to start the game as they tried to build some momentum moving forward. However, Mitch Atkins would steal away the puck and the momentum for the Ice Flyers. Atkins would find Comeau who sprung Ivan Bondarenko one-on-none against Boyko. After Bondarenko scored, pandemonium would ensue as 18 penalty minutes were handed out during the altercation. Josh Boyko would keep Macon right in the contest as he stopped 20 of 21 shots in the first period.

Dallas Comeau would double the Ice Flyers’ advantage, but Macon would answer back 35 seconds later. Mayhem netminder Josh Boyko would connect on a long outlet pass to Justin Cmunt, who drove in the left circle and rocketed the puck by the glove of Morris to pull one back for the Mayhem. Macon would carry that momentum for some time throughout the frame. Pensacola would grab the next two goals, however. Jayson Dobay would tally his first goal as a professional with Sam Dabrowski grabbing another just 19 seconds later. Macon would head to the second intermission down 4-1.

Macon would be tasked with killing off a penalty to start the final frame. Macon would kill off the penalty but succumb the fifth goal just a brief moment later as Dante Zapata capitalized on the seized momentum. Later in the period, Macon would be tasked to kill another penalty, the Mayhem would once again succeed in killing it off, but the goal would come moments later as Brett Mecrones added the final goal of the contest to make it a 6-1 final in favor of Pensacola.

The Mayhem will have another shot at the Ice Flyers tomorrow night in Pensacola. Macon will head to the road for the turn of the calendar year before returning on January 5th for a rematch with Pensacola. Tickets start at just $15 so come join in on the fun.
